Try these simple tips from our esthetics team to minimize breakouts on face and body.

Acne can be a common concern, especially during the summer when increased heat and humidity can exacerbate breakouts. Here are some tips to help manage and prevent acne during the summer.

1. Cleanse your face regularly:

Wash your face twice a day with a cleanser formulated for breakout-prone skin to remove excess oil, sweat, and dirt. Avoid harsh scrubbing or using rough exfoliants as they can irritate the skin and worsen acne.

2. Use products that are right for your skin:

Sometimes your home skin care is the culprit for summer breakouts. If a product seems to be causing you to break out, stop using it and try an alternative.

A lightweight zinc-based sunscreen is best to protect skin, while keeping pores clean.

3. Protect your skin from the sun with an acne-friendly sunscreen:

Apply a lightweight, broad-spectrum sunscreen with a zinc-based SPF of 30 or higher to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Zinc is actually calming and soothing to breakouts, doesn’t clog pores and also protects from hyperpigmentation from the sun in areas with breakouts. This can leave red marks from pimples behind long after they are gone.

4. Avoid touching your face:

It can transfer bacteria, oil, and dirt from your hands to your skin, leading to breakouts.

5. Manage sweat:

Sweating can contribute to acne flare-ups. Shower or cleanse your skin after sweating to remove any impurities and reduce the chances of clogged pores. If you can't wash your face immediately, use a facial wipe or a gentle toner to clean the skin, then cleanse thoroughly as soon as possible.

6. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate:

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside, keeping skin functioning properly.

7. Avoid heavy products:

During the summer, it's best to avoid heavy creams, lotions, and greasy cosmetics as they can trap sweat and oil on your skin, leading to breakouts. Use a lightweight, gel-based moisturizer, with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, to prevent excessive dryness and boost skin hydration, without clogging your pores.

8. Be cautious with hats, sunglasses and sporting equipment, like bike helmets:

Ensure they are clean and not too tight. Friction and pressure from these accessories can irritate the skin, transfer bacteria and contribute to acne formation. Wipe these accessories down regularly with alcohol or a natural disinfecting wipe.

Dehydrated skin is unbalanced skin that can lead to more breakouts.

9. Don't overwash your face:

While it's essential to keep your skin clean, excessive washing can strip away natural oils and disrupt the skin's barrier, leading to more oil production and potential breakouts.
